Paris Museums Plan Mass Closures Amid Protest Risks
Paris museums including the Louvre, Orsay and Picasso, along with other cultural venues, planned to close Saturday amid fears of violence at new demonstrations. Art Basel Paris also canceled its weekend program after opening to the public for one day. The precautions follow last weekend’s looting and clashes, which authorities described as some of France’s worst unrest in years. Student and Yellow Vest demonstrations were planned despite government restrictions, while labor leaders argued that curbing protests would not ease public anger over issues including budget cuts, wages and the cost of living.
