Paris Retailers Prepare for Expected Protests
Paris retailers and cultural institutions are taking precautions ahead of another round of protests, following violence and looting the previous weekend. Shop owners have boarded up windows and reinforced storefronts, while Apple is closing its Paris stores for Saturday; several museums and venues are also shutting, though some major retailers plan to remain open. Authorities rejected a proposed march through central commercial districts and authorized a route through residential neighborhoods instead. The unrest is also affecting luxury businesses: Hermès says a looted Marseille boutique will not reopen soon and has increased security at its French stores.
