Patrick Kane Sets NHL U.S.-Born Assist Record

Patrick Kane set the NHL record for career assists by a U.S.-born player, earning his 895th helper Thursday night to pass Phil Housley. The milestone came on Connor Bedard’s first-period power-play goal, giving Chicago an early lead against Winnipeg and marking the first time Kane assisted on a Bedard goal. Kane reached the record in 1,377 games, 119 fewer than Housley needed for his 894 assists. Kane also holds the record for career points by an American-born NHL player and has 1,404 points.
