Paulina Porizkova Says Women Expected to Go Silent as They Age

Paulina Porizkova, 61, posted an Instagram video on Sunday, September 27 thanking women who stop her to say thank you for making them not feel alone about aging. She said she is shocked by the thanks and is still getting over feeling she does not deserve it. "We do get dismissed from the main tables when we age. We are expected to go silent. We are expected to sort of withdraw from polite society," Porizkova said. She called aging a privilege that is maligned for women and asked whether they can age and still be at the main table, saying they have more to contribute. Those not ready to give it up have to go through surgical procedures, she said, while those who do not care can withdraw and have happy lives, but a lack of balance remains. In her caption she said the post is purely about scrolling on social media and asked what content makes people feel better, worse, envious, generous or inspired. She feels better when women mirror her experiences and inspired by women being unapologetically themselves. The Czech-born model, a 1983 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit search winner who appeared on its 1984 and 1985 covers, does not use Botox or fillers and has posted earlier videos on her aging body and wrinkles.
