Pedestrian Bridges Open, Under Construction Across US, UK
New pedestrian bridges are improving or expanding trail and community connections in several cities. In Grand Rapids Township, a $700,000, 240-foot bridge over railroad tracks completes a gap in the regional trail network and gives walkers, runners and cyclists a safer route beside Crahen Avenue. Preston is installing a 26-meter bridge over Moor Park’s Serpentine Lake as part of a broader, government-funded park renovation. In Warren, a newly opened bridge across the Mahoning River connects downtown’s amphitheater with the Peninsula neighborhood, where a mixed-use development is planned. Construction is also underway on a motorist-free Red River crossing between Fargo and Moorhead, with completion expected in 2028.
