Pennsylvania AG urges crypto ATM warnings to fight rising scams
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday has launched a statewide campaign urging businesses with cryptocurrency ATMs to display warnings that encourage customers to stop and verify requests before sending money. The signs target scams involving threats of arrest or fines, fake investment offers and online romance schemes, in which fraudsters pressure victims to convert cash into cryptocurrency that is difficult to recover. The Attorney General’s Office received nearly 300 cryptocurrency-related complaints last year, and officials say older adults may be particularly vulnerable. Sunday stressed that legitimate law enforcement agencies and courts do not demand payment through cryptocurrency kiosks, and urged anyone who suspects fraud to contact the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
