Pennsylvania Announces $837 Million PhilaPort Expansion
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced a $371.5 million state investment in PhilaPort, part of an expansion expected to draw an additional $200 million or more in private funding and $266 million in federal grants. The more than $837 million project is set to increase container capacity by 122% and auto capacity by 18%, with improvements including dredging, new waterfront facilities, land acquisition, and cranes and other equipment. Officials say the expansion will create more than 6,000 jobs, building on a port that supported over 8,000 jobs and nearly $1.2 billion in Pennsylvania economic output in 2025.
