Improved Turkey Reproduction Reported as Pennsylvania Season Opens in 20 Units
Pennsylvania’s fall turkey season opens Oct. 31 in 20 of the state’s 22 Wildlife Management Units; hunting remains closed in WMUs 5C and 5D. Season lengths vary by unit, from Nov. 3 closures in WMUs 5A and 5B to Nov. 20 in WMUs 2B, 2C, 2D and 2E, with a Nov. 25–27 Thanksgiving season in designated units. The Game Commission says turkey reproduction improved: its 2026 summer survey recorded 10,888 sightings, compared with 10,674 in 2025, and an average of 2.83 poults per hen, up from 2.67. Hunters may use shotguns with fine shot or archery equipment, but not single-projectile firearms; fluorescent orange is recommended, especially when moving, though it is not required.
