Pentagon Weighs $5 Billion Fluidstack Loan
The Pentagon is discussing a roughly $5 billion loan to AI cloud-computing startup Fluidstack through its Office of Strategic Capital, in what could be the office’s largest loan to date. The funding would reportedly support U.S. manufacturing and supply chains for data-center components rather than finance construction of a new AI facility. The initiative reflects Washington’s growing view that AI computing capacity, power infrastructure and related supply chains are matters of national security, particularly as the United States seeks to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers. The talks follow President Donald Trump’s executive order tightening restrictions on certain foreign-made power-grid equipment. The loan has not been finalized, and its interest rate and other terms remain subject to negotiations.
