Pet Aid Efforts Grow Across Communities

Community efforts are helping people care for animals through donated supplies and free pet food. A six-year-old Franklin Square resident organized a drive for toys, blankets and other items for the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, while New York City plans to distribute free dog and cat food at 22 city-funded food pantries, backed by $500,000 in funding. In Owensboro, a couple has opened a “Paw Pantry” where residents can take needed pet food and supplies or leave donations; it also has a microchip scanner to help reunite lost pets with their owners. A Dallas-Fort Worth outreach initiative serving people experiencing homelessness will also provide pet food and supplies alongside other essentials.
