Philippine couple marry in flooded church
A Philippine couple, Leian Lieza Galang and Gilbert Chico, wed inside the Saint John the Baptist church in Hagonoy as hip-deep floodwaters from heavy monsoon rains swamped the area. They carried on with the ceremony despite the parish’s warning to postpone and the church being partially underwater for about a month. The bride had her gown altered to shorten the train to navigate the waist-deep waters, and the couple arrived by rickshaw to a courtyard scene after wading through the flooded interior. Fewer than 15 guests attended, and a boy carried the wedding rings down the aisle as cameras captured the unusual celebration that quickly spread online. The wedding occurred amid floods that affected large parts of the country, with official tallies reporting multiple fatalities from the rains.
