Phoenix Symphony plans season suspension, musician layoffs

The Phoenix Symphony will suspend the remainder of its 2026–27 season after its Nov. 1 concert, citing ongoing deficits and insufficient funds to meet essential obligations. Musicians will be laid off beginning Nov. 2, and subscribers and ticket holders will be contacted about their options. The orchestra said revenue has grown, including a reported increase of more than 50% since 2024, but donations have fallen short and much of its endowment campaign cannot support day-to-day expenses. The board plans to review the finances and develop a recovery plan, but it is unclear when or whether performances will resume.
