Phoenix Tests Autonomous Shuttles, Tallinn Runs Operator-Free
Phoenix Sky Harbor is testing two driverless Ohmio shuttles in its East Economy parking lot, carrying travelers to the PHX Sky Train station with onboard attendants available to assist or take control. The six-month weekday pilot is intended to gather passenger feedback as the city explores airport and street-based autonomous transportation, with officials emphasizing safety. In a separate development, Estonia’s Auve Tech has received authorization to operate its MiCa shuttles at Tallinn Airport without an onboard safety operator, transporting workers, tools and parts between Magnetic MRO facilities. The electric, eight-passenger Level 4 vehicles follow mapped routes under remote supervision, after years of testing and review of their safety data. The Tallinn service marks a move beyond a conventional pilot, while the company says removing onboard attendants could help make autonomous airport transport more scalable.
