Phoenix Wrong-Way Crash Kills Girl, Driver Arrested

A wrong-way pickup truck struck a southbound car near 18th Street and Washington Street in downtown Phoenix, leaving a mother and young daughter with critical, life-threatening injuries; initial reports said the pickup driver was also hospitalized. Separate reporting describes an earlier crash at the same intersection in which a 10-year-old girl later died and her mother remained in critical condition. In that earlier crash, police said the pickup driver was traveling the wrong way and allegedly had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit; he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault. Available reports do not establish whether the incidents were connected.
