Photographer Survives 200-Foot Fall in Portugal

Adventure photographer Kyle Quin Schrock, 36, of San Diego, was seriously injured when a trail gave way beneath him during a hike on Madeira, Portugal, on October 11, sending him about 200 feet down a cliff. A small bush caught his fall, and he was airlifted to a hospital. Schrock said he suffered a broken back, ribs and sternum; his family said he remained in intensive care awaiting spinal surgery and treatment for his lungs. His family has launched a fundraiser to help cover medical care, rehabilitation and travel, saying he will be unable to work for months.
