Poilievre Urges Carney to Scrap Tanker Ban
Canadian Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and other opposition MPs are urging Prime Minister Mark Carney to lift or amend the ban on oil tankers off British Columbia’s northern coast, arguing it forces Canada to sell oil at a discount to U.S. buyers. They point to a proposal to move up to 250,000 barrels of oil per day by rail to Prince Rupert for export, which would require changing the ban. Carney’s agreement with British Columbia’s then-premier committed Ottawa to maintain the ban, while Alberta has separately proposed a pipeline using a southern route to an export terminal in Delta.
