Poland detains Polish-Ukrainian dual national at reservist training on espionage suspicions
Polish military police detained a 31-year-old Polish-Ukrainian dual citizen on Oct. 16 while he was attending a reservist training course at the Military Medical Academy in Łódź. Authorities suspect he was conducting reconnaissance of military facilities and preparing to act for a foreign intelligence service, but have not identified the service, and the allegations remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings. Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said the suspect had recently obtained Polish citizenship. Media reports say officers found phones, documents, stamps, cash and gold, though those details have not been publicly confirmed by authorities. The suspect has been placed in pretrial detention for three months.
