Poland probes Baltic drone debris, likely military-test wreckage

A passerby found drone-like fragments partially buried on the beach in Karwia, Puck County, on October 13, 2026, at about 6:30 pm local time and notified police. Military sappers and other services responded. Polish military police said on X they are investigating the discovery of unidentified flying object fragments. Spokesman Dariusz Rozkosz told TVN24 the type of object had not yet been established. Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said Wednesday the wreckage is a Polish drone destroyed in exercises. "Drone tests were conducted a few weeks ago in Ustka (a town on the Baltic coast). This is a Polish drone that was destroyed by Polish anti-drone systems during the exercises," he said. He added that after a few weeks the wreckage washed up and assured it "wasn't some Russian provocation, but the result of exercises at the training ground in Ustka." A Defence Ministry spokesperson said preliminary findings pointed to a test drone from a Polish military aviation technology institute. The find follows a suspected Russian drone on the Baltic coast the prior month, a Kh-101 crash near Tarnawa-Kolonia in late July, and about 20 Russian drones in Polish airspace on September 9-10, 2025. Poland is NATO's largest eastern-flank member and borders Ukraine. Authorities have not linked the fragments to the war.
