Meloni’s Government Becomes Italy’s Longest-Serving

Giorgia Meloni’s coalition government has completed 1,413 days in office, surpassing Silvio Berlusconi’s 1,412-day second government to become the longest-serving administration in Italy’s republican history. At a rally in Bari, Meloni portrayed the milestone as evidence of her center-right coalition’s unity and political stability, while highlighting claimed gains in employment, public finances, security and Italy’s international influence. The event also served as an informal launch of the governing Brothers of Italy’s campaign ahead of the 2027 elections. Supporters celebrated the government’s record, but trade union leaders and other critics argued that stability had not delivered stronger wage growth, economic expansion or improved public services, and protesters gathered near the rally.
