Slide deploys on Trump’s Qatar-gifted jet before Dallas flight

An emergency evacuation slide inflated on the Qatar-donated Boeing 747 at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday as President Trump prepared to fly to Dallas for a Republican midterm convention. The deployment briefly raised questions about whether Trump would switch aircraft, especially after the older blue-and-white Air Force One was moved from its hangar and prepared nearby. Trump remained aboard Marine One for about 20 minutes before saying the slide was being checked as part of a safety test, not because of an emergency. He ultimately boarded the Qatar-gifted aircraft and said he was confident it was safe to fly.
