Charlie Kirk Statue Vandalized in Phoenix

A newly installed, approximately eight-foot bronze statue honoring Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was vandalized overnight outside the organization’s Phoenix-area headquarters, three days after it was unveiled on the first anniversary of Kirk’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley University. Red paint was sprayed across the statue’s face and neck, a frowning face was drawn on its torso, and a nearby memorial sign was marked with an X and had religious references crossed out. Phoenix police opened an investigation; no arrests or suspect descriptions had been announced, and TPUSA said it was reviewing surveillance footage and would restore the statue and replace the damaged signs. Memorial events and statue unveilings also took place in Utah and New York City, including a Times Square sculpture by Sergio Furnari depicting Kirk seated with a microphone; the New York event drew supporters and protesters, and far-right activist Jake Lang was reportedly heckled, chased and struck before police intervened. Supporters at the Utah memorial highlighted Kirk’s influence on students, free speech and the continuation of his political movement, while critics have condemned remarks they considered racist, anti-immigrant, transphobic and misogynistic; his widow, Erika Kirk, has assumed a leadership role at TPUSA. The criminal case against Tyler Robinson, who has pleaded not guilty to Kirk’s killing, remains pending.
