Trump Signs Law Allowing Medal of Honor Monument on National Mall
President Donald Trump signed the Hershel “Woody” Williams National Medal of Honor Monument Location Act during a ceremony at the National Medal of Honor Museum in Texas. The law authorizes the future monument honoring Congressional Medal of Honor recipients to be located within the protected Reserve of Washington’s National Mall, near the Lincoln Memorial. Congress approved the monument in 2021, and the new law clears land-use restrictions; construction will be funded through private donations. The legislation honors Williams, a Marine recognized for his heroism at Iwo Jima and the last surviving World War II Medal of Honor recipient when he died in 2022. Trump and Senator Jim Justice, who introduced the bill, praised the recipients’ courage and sacrifice, and the measure passed Congress without opposition.
