Brennan Subpoenaed to Testify Before Florida Grand Jury in Trump Probe
Former CIA Director John Brennan has been subpoenaed to appear Oct. 15 before a federal grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida. Attorney Ken Wainstein disclosed in a Monday, Sept. 14, 2026 court filing that prosecutors presented the subpoena last Thursday. The Justice Department investigation examines whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired to deprive Donald Trump of civil rights; it reportedly covers the 2016 Russia election-interference investigation and Trump’s retention of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, and is among recent subpoenas. The subpoena was delivered the same day Joe diGenova resigned as lead prosecutor of the casually termed “grand conspiracy” investigation amid reported Justice Department and White House displeasure over its pace and management. No replacement has been publicly announced. Kurt Olsen of the investigative team spoke with Wainstein. Brennan remains a target of a separate Washington investigation into whether he made false statements to Congress in 2023, an allegation he and his lawyers deny; grand-jury subpoenas issued in that matter in spring were withdrawn in favor of voluntary interviews. Hours after the disclosure, a Washington court heard Brennan’s lawsuit seeking an order to preserve records from the investigations targeting him, which he argues could support a defense against selective or vindictive prosecution. Brennan’s Oct. 15 Florida appearance and the records-preservation request are the immediate next steps on the public docket.
