Man sentenced to 14 months for spraying vinegar on Ilhan Omar

Anthony Kazmierczak, 56, was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to spraying Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar with a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar during a January town hall in Minneapolis. Witnesses said he approached Omar with a syringe and accused her of “splitting Minnesota apart” before her security officers restrained him; Omar was not injured and continued the event. He also received three years of supervised release, including a no-contact order with Omar. Prosecutors said Kazmierczak had indicated beforehand that he planned to do something at the meeting, while his defense cited alcohol abuse, mental-health concerns and Parkinson’s disease; he later apologized and said his memory of the incident was “fuzzy.”
