Trump Calls AI ‘Super Intelligence’ at UN

President Donald Trump initially asked followers on X and Truth Social to vote on replacing “artificial intelligence” with “Superior Intelligence,” “Extreme Intelligence” or “Supreme Intelligence,” later restarting the poll after removing “Supreme Intelligence.” Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, he said the U.S. government would instead refer to artificial intelligence as “super intelligence,” or “SI,” arguing that “artificial” makes the technology sound fake. Trump rejected international efforts to regulate or supervise AI as a “globalist scheme,” pledged to accelerate U.S. development and said the Justice Department would monitor the technology. His remarks came as more than 20 mostly European countries urged binding safety measures and technology companies and researchers warned that AI could escape human control. Trump dismissed predictions of catastrophic AI and climate-related consequences, while his broader AI agenda has included an “AI Force” and an AI czar; he also separately said he faced a major decision over the U.S. conflict with Iran and suggested a future deal could allow Iran to rebuild.
