Outlets Seek Extension of White House Access Order

CNN, MS NOW and Politico asked a federal judge to extend protections restoring their White House access until their lawsuit over President Donald Trump’s ban is resolved. The temporary restraining order expires Oct. 8, but the outlets say restrictions have continued, including CNN’s exclusion from White House pool coverage. They argue the ban retaliates against coverage Trump dislikes, violates the First Amendment and due process, and would harm journalism and the public’s access to information. The administration has defended the ban by citing national security and journalistic standards, while Trump has publicly called the outlets’ reporting fake news. Judge Timothy Kelly previously ordered access restored and found the administration’s initial national-security rationale insufficiently supported.
