Trump and Tech Leaders Sign Morally Binding AI Safety Accord

President Donald Trump and leaders of six major technology companies signed a voluntary “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities” to strengthen safety oversight of advanced AI systems, which Trump has directed the federal government to call “Super Intelligence.” The pledge calls for companies to monitor models internally, have dedicated teams check safeguards, use independent external auditors, and route findings to independent board committees; it has no clear enforcement mechanism, and auditor standards and consequences for failures remain unresolved. Trump described the accord as morally binding and left open the possibility of future laws or regulations, while opposing new government guardrails on the grounds that they could weaken U.S. competition with China. Signatories include Google, Anthropic, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI and X; Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called the accord a starting point. The agreement comes amid concern about advanced AI capabilities and calls for stronger protections.
