Judge Reinstates Trump-Fired Seattle Prosecutor
A federal judge reinstated Roger Rogoff as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington, ruling that President Donald Trump could not unilaterally fire a prosecutor appointed by federal district judges. Rogoff was appointed in July after the office lacked a Senate-confirmed leader and was fired less than an hour after taking the oath. The court said he may serve until a replacement is nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate, and barred the administration from treating him as removed or obstructing his access to the office and its resources. The judge declined to pause the ruling during an appeal. The Justice Department said it would seek an immediate stay and appeal, in a broader dispute over presidential removal powers and the process for filling U.S. attorney vacancies.
