Hinson, Turek Set for Second Senate Debate
Republican U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson and Democratic state Rep. Josh Turek are scheduled to meet Tuesday in their second debate in Iowa’s closely watched race for the Senate seat being vacated by Joni Ernst. The contest could affect control of the Senate, and polling is mixed: an Emerson pre-debate survey showed Hinson ahead 47% to 45%, while a Suffolk poll and RealClearPolling’s average gave Turek a narrow lead. Hosted by WHO 13 and moderated by Amanda Krenz and Tim Seaman, the debate is expected to address immigration, health care, agriculture, technology, fuel prices and the war in Iran. Libertarian candidate Thomas Laehn will not participate because he did not meet the host’s eligibility criteria.
