Ida Odinga Urges Peace at Anniversary Memorial
Thousands of mourners, family members and political figures gathered in Bondo to mark the first anniversary of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death. His widow, Ida Odinga, urged leaders not to use his name for political gain and called on Kenyans to uphold peace, tolerance and love amid political disagreements. The commemoration took place as the Orange Democratic Movement remained divided over its alliance with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 election; Ruto did not attend, and ODM leader Oburu Odinga was absent while recovering from illness, prompting questions from mourners. Earlier tributes included a church-led candle-lighting ceremony, where Ida reflected on Raila’s many roles and the family’s shock at his death.
Where do you stand?
