Oklahoma Board Denies Pavatt Clemency
The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board voted 3-2 against recommending clemency for James Dwight Pavatt, who is scheduled to be executed Nov. 12 for the 2001 killing of Rob Andrew. Prosecutors said Pavatt and Brenda Andrew, Rob’s wife, conspired to kill him so she could collect on a life insurance policy; both were convicted and sentenced to death. Pavatt denied shooting anyone, and his defense and death-penalty opponents have challenged the evidence against him. The board’s decision leaves the final clemency decision to Gov. Kevin Stitt.
