Kansas Man Charged With Threatening Trump Before Rally

Federal prosecutors charged 24-year-old Jaden Read of Clearwater, Kansas, with knowingly threatening to kill or harm President Donald Trump ahead of Trump’s planned visit to the Wichita area. A Crime Stoppers tip on Oct. 15 led investigators to Facebook comments on local news articles. Authorities say Read allegedly called for Trump to be shot, claimed to have ammunition, and said he had mapped rooftops near the planned speech. Read was arrested Saturday and remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing. The Secret Service and Kansas law enforcement investigated. If convicted, the charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Contested: none found in record. Outlets align on the charge, tip, alleged comments, arrest, and penalty. A detention hearing is pending.
