Commentaries Accuse Senate Nominee El-Sayed of Dishonesty
Several sharply partisan opinion pieces criticize Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, accusing him of shifting positions or misleading voters on Medicare for All, abortion rights and climate policy. One writer says El-Sayed described the government as the insurer under Medicare for All, with private insurance available only as optional luxury coverage, and argues the plan could give government excessive control and limit care. Other pieces question his use of the title “doctor,” contrast his current support for gas-powered engines with past remarks criticizing car dependence and the Green New Deal, and criticize a faith-focused campaign ad amid allegations of ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. The commentaries offer little response from El-Sayed and do not independently verify their allegations.
