Arizona Man Sentenced for Trump, Harris Threats
Rene Ortiz, 56, of Casa Grande, Arizona, was sentenced to 38 months in federal prison after a jury convicted him of three felony counts for threatening Donald Trump and Kamala Harris during the 2024 election. Prosecutors said Ortiz left a note at a Phoenix federal courthouse on Election Day threatening to kill the newly elected president with a rifle, then delivered a second threat in Tucson saying he would shoot the incoming president at the inauguration. Ortiz reaffirmed his intent when questioned by the Secret Service and was arrested on Jan. 17, 2025, days before the inauguration.
