Padilla Seeks ICE Answers After Woodland Collision
Sen. Alex Padilla visited Sacramento’s ICE holding facility Thursday to seek answers about an incident in Woodland in which an ICE vehicle struck pedestrian Antonio Moreida, who was filming an immigration operation. Video appears to show the vehicle hitting Moreida, and Woodland police said DHS’s account was inconsistent with the footage; DHS disputed that the agent hit a pedestrian and accused Moreida of staging the incident. Padilla said the agent remained on duty and called for a full investigation and accountability, while Rep. Mike Thompson also urged ICE to investigate and cooperate with local law enforcement. DHS had not announced a formal investigation, and Woodland police were conducting a criminal investigation. During his facility visit, Padilla also sought information about detention conditions, access to counsel and the level of immigration enforcement activity.
