Three Areas Offer Free Election Day Transit
Transit agencies in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Bismarck, North Dakota, and the Houston area are offering free rides to polling locations on Election Day, Nov. 3, 2026, to reduce transportation barriers for voters. Winston-Salem’s offer covers fixed-route buses and eligible TransAID trips, which must be reserved through the usual process; Bis-Man Transit will provide free rides on its six routes during operating hours. Houston-area METRO riders can use buses, METRORail, paratransit and other services by showing a voter registration card when boarding; regular fares apply during early voting and on other days. Officials encourage voters to confirm their polling place and plan their trips in advance.
