NC State Searches Sigma Nu House in Hazing Probe
NC State police, with assistance from partner agencies including SBI agents, searched the Sigma Nu fraternity house in Raleigh as part of a criminal investigation into hazing allegations. The chapter is under interim suspension while the university conducts a separate student-conduct investigation; authorities have not released details, and an anonymous report logged in October alleged members were hazed using date-rape drugs. A sheet reading “Relax Pal” briefly displayed outside the house drew attention, but officials have not said whether it is connected to the investigation. Separately, Colgate suspended its men’s lacrosse team pending an investigation, with no findings of responsibility announced; the University of North Florida suspended Chi Phi for five years after finding it responsible for hazing, endangerment and other violations, though the evidence did not meet Florida’s criminal-hazing standard. The University of Arizona temporarily halted fraternity activities while addressing a backlog of misconduct reports, and the University of Alabama revoked a Kappa Alpha Psi chapter’s recognition through May 2030 after an investigation into alleged abuse of new members.
