Mary Peltola Reschedules Campaign Stops After Alaska Crash
Alaska Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola and her family sustained minor injuries Saturday night when another vehicle struck their car as they traveled to the Alaska Federation of Natives Annual Banquet. Campaign manager Cheryl Bruce said they were in good spirits and that, on medical advice, events in Fairbanks and Bethel would be rescheduled while she recovers. The crash delayed the start of her eight-stop Alaska Always Tour; stops resume Tuesday in Homer and end Oct. 31 in Palmer. Bruce said Peltola is disappointed and eager to speak with Alaskans about taking on the rigged system and lowering costs for working families. Peltola, 53, finished as the top vote-getter in Alaska's August top-four primary and is challenging Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan under ranked-choice voting. On Friday, Donald Trump said he told his administration to sue to block certification if Sullivan loses, citing ballot confusion with candidate Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. Trump has called Peltola No Show Mary and a whack job; Sullivan has said she missed 20 percent of her votes. Her team accused Republicans of shamefully twisting her family tragedy to score political points. Police details on the crash were not reported.
