Cyberattack Targets Italian Parliament Emails Including Meloni’s Account
A cyberattack targeting the Italian Chamber of Deputies’ IT system affected multiple lawmakers’ email accounts, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s parliamentary account. Chamber sources said technicians contained the incident and protective measures were implemented with Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency, while describing such attempts as frequent rather than an emergency. Meloni’s office said the affected account is not used for government communications. One news report characterized the network and email account as breached, while other accounts described the accounts as targeted and did not confirm the extent of any unauthorized access. Sources also reported a recent increase in cyberattacks and pressure on Italian, European and international institutions.
