FBI Probes Alleged $1.8 Million District Diversion
Federal investigators are examining allegations that former Burlington School District administrator Stephanie Phillips diverted nearly $1.8 million from the district over more than a decade. Court filings allege she used Leading and Learning Consultants of Vermont to submit fabricated invoices for professional-development work that was not performed or was already part of her salaried duties. Investigators say the money may have gone toward personal expenses, including home improvements. The FBI searched Phillips’s home and seized electronic devices. Phillips has not been charged. The district says it reported the financial discrepancies, is cooperating with authorities, and will seek to recover funds if the allegations are proven.
