Stevens Endorses Rogers in Michigan Senate Race
Rep. Haley Stevens, who lost Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers ahead of the Nov. 3 election, reversing her earlier support for El-Sayed. Stevens said El-Sayed had made clear she was unwelcome in his campaign, amid a bitter dispute over Israel-related campaign messaging and El-Sayed’s associations with progressive commentator Hasan Piker. The endorsement came alongside Rogers at a Detroit church and drew sharp condemnation from Democratic colleagues and party leaders; Stevens’ congressional staff reportedly resigned, and the Michigan Democratic Party said she was no longer a member. The high-stakes contest is for the open seat held by retiring Democrat Gary Peters, and its outcome could affect control of the closely divided Senate.
