Texas Arrests, Federal Charges in Voting Cases
Texas authorities said they arrested multiple people with felony convictions who are accused of voting while on parole in Harris County; the investigation began with a citizen’s tip, and officials have not identified those arrested. Separately, federal prosecutors charged five noncitizens in Texas with alleged election or immigration-related offenses: three are accused of voting in 2024 federal elections and one in 2022, while two also face charges involving false citizenship claims or immigration statements. The defendants include a DACA recipient and four lawful permanent residents, and the charges remain allegations. In Tennessee, federal prosecutors charged three noncitizens with allegedly voting in the 2024 federal election after falsely claiming U.S. citizenship on voter-registration applications. The Texas federal charges came shortly before midterm elections amid broader Justice Department election-related actions; voting-rights advocates warn such cases could fuel distrust, while prosecutors say they are protecting election integrity.
