Castor Wins Florida Seat Despite GOP Redistricting
Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor won an 11th term representing Florida’s 14th Congressional District, defeating Republican Mike Beltran with about 51% of the vote to his roughly 46%. She prevailed despite a Republican-led redistricting that moved the Tampa-area district entirely within Hillsborough County and made it substantially more favorable to Republicans. The closely watched race had been viewed as a potential GOP pickup, and Castor campaigned on her record of bringing federal investment to the district and addressing issues including health care costs and jobs.
