Mamdani Threatens Suit Over ICE Use of City Property

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has demanded that federal officials stop ICE agents from using city-owned parking lots to stage immigration operations, warning that the city will sue if the alleged use continues. His letter cites reports of agents parking vehicles and holding meetings at lots near Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx and Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, including one beside a city-run preschool. The city says it did not authorize the activity and has introduced new procedures and training for Parks Department employees responding to nonlocal law enforcement seeking access to city property. The Department of Homeland Security has defended ICE’s use of public parking lots as authorized under federal law.
