Republicans win Florida House seats and Kentucky district
As votes were counted in the 2026 U.S. elections, Republicans Greg Steube and Jim Schwartzel won Florida House seats, and Hal Rogers secured a 24th consecutive term representing Kentucky’s 5th District. In Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District, Democrat Jahana Hayes sought a fourth term against Republican Chris Shea; Hayes emphasized support for small farmers, workers’ rights and education, while Shea focused on immigration enforcement, military strength, support for Israel and veterans’ services. In the 1st District, former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin faced Republican physician Amy Chai after defeating longtime incumbent John Larson in the Democratic primary. Bronin campaigned on lowering costs, universal health care and protections for reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights, while Chai focused on mental health, addiction treatment and health care costs. Connecticut election-day coverage showed voters casting ballots across the state.
