Kemp Rules Out Special Session On Maps Or Powers After Bottoms Win

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said he will not call a special session to redraw political maps or limit the governor’s powers after Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms won the governor’s race, ending 24 years of Republican control of the office. Kemp said he would respect the election results and Georgia’s laws and constitution, and congratulated Bottoms and Sen. Jon Ossoff on their victories. He left open the possibility of a special session to address budget issues before the Legislature’s regular session in January. Kemp also said Republicans should learn from the election results and return to their party’s conservative principles.
