Zamarripa Wins, Becomes Wisconsin’s First Latina Statewide Official
Democrat JoCasta Zamarripa won Wisconsin’s secretary of state race, defeating Republican Jay Schroeder and Green Party candidate Pete Karas. Her election makes her the first Latina elected to statewide office in Wisconsin. Zamarripa, a Milwaukee Common Council alderperson who previously served five terms in the state Assembly, is scheduled to take office in January 2027. Her departure from the council will leave a vacancy requiring a special election, whose timing has not been announced.
