Poll: 70% doubt Trump would accept GOP midterm losses
A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll of 2,545 U.S. adults conducted online October 9-13 found 70% not confident President Donald Trump would accept GOP midterm losses, including 94% of Democrats, 77% of independents and 36% of Republicans. Mediaite reported 63% of Republicans are confident he would accept a loss, versus 6% of Democrats and 21% of independents. Sixty-one percent overall were confident Democratic leaders would accept a loss. Sixty percent said they were confident the midterms would be fair and 65% that votes would be counted accurately, with similar Democratic and Republican confidence on fairness and lower confidence among independents. Trump told NBC News in February he would trust results "if the elections are honest." In January he told The New York Times he regretted not having troops seize voting machines after 2020. Courts and independent studies have found no evidence of widespread voter fraud. Jonnie Smith said Trump "has to throw dirt on it if it doesn’t come out his way, period" and "He’s shown us that every time he loses." Gary Podbielski said "He’ll fight it" and "He’ll say something stupid." Patty Nelson said she always feels elections are fair; Jennifer Fenderson said they are "never fair when it comes down to voting."
