Polymarket Probes Dozens of Midterm Bets

Polymarket says it has investigated dozens of bets on midterm election markets for possible insider trading or manipulation, and at least two cases have reportedly been referred to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The company’s 16-person investigations team uses a new surveillance system that combines information such as campaign-finance filings, social media, banking and crypto data; its leader says it generates hundreds of alerts daily. The system monitors both Polymarket’s identity-verified U.S. exchange and its international crypto platform, where users can trade anonymously, though the company says traders can often still be identified. The probes come amid broader scrutiny of election betting, including concerns that insider trading could affect public perceptions and the democratic process.
