Pool Renovations Bring Reopenings Across Regions

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has reopened after months of closure for a renovation that included repainting it blue. The project faced persistent algae problems and vandalism, prompting fencing and restricted access; its estimated cost has risen from $1.5 million to more than $14 million. A historic-preservation group sued, arguing the color change would alter the memorial’s character and the pool’s relationship to the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.
